Either way there are two major types of diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2. Each type of diabetes is believed to be caused by different factors. With Type 1 diabetes, which is normally diagnosed extremely early in an individual’s life is thought to be a genetically inherited disorder. If the mother and father both carry a recessive gene that causes a lack of insulin production there is a one in four chance that their child will wind up having Type 1 Diabetes. It is important to note that this is only a logical theory and there is no strong evidence to support this idea or theory.

Type 2 Diabetes is usually diagnosed when an individual goes through puberty or is a young adult and more often than not people who are diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes are overweight or obese. It is because of this common observation of Type 2 Diabetes being discovered in overweight or obese people that Type 2 Diabetes can be caused by unhealthy eating habits as well as obesity. To add fuel to this fire of a theory people believe that Type 2 Diabetes if caught early can not only be managed well but the effects can be completely reversed upon loss of weight and improved eating habits.

So while what causes diabetes seems to be a difficult question to directly answer there are many logical theories out there and some research to back these theories as well.

Depending on what type of diabetes you have will determine whether it is a health issue and can be resolved or if it is something you will have to live with for the rest of your life.
