What causes diabetes is a question that has been asked time and time again. While there are some theories, the exact cause of diabetes is not known. It is one of those diseases that could be genetic or could be influenced by your environment, or it could be that people have a genetic code that is more prone to diabetes and poor lifestyle habits can trigger diabetes.

Either way there are two major types of diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2. Each type of diabetes is believed to be caused by different factors. With Type 1 diabetes, which is normally diagnosed extremely early in an individual’s life is thought to be a genetically inherited disorder. If the mother and father both carry a recessive gene that causes a lack of insulin production there is a one in four chance that their child will wind up having Type 1 Diabetes. It is important to note that this is only a logical theory and there is no strong evidence to support this idea or theory.

Type 2 Diabetes is usually diagnosed when an individual goes through puberty or is a young adult and more often than not people who are diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes are overweight or obese. It is because of this common observation of Type 2 Diabetes being discovered in overweight or obese people that Type 2 Diabetes can be caused by unhealthy eating habits as well as obesity. To add fuel to this fire of a theory people believe that Type 2 Diabetes if caught early can not only be managed well but the effects can be completely reversed upon loss of weight and improved eating habits.

So while what causes diabetes seems to be a difficult question to directly answer there are many logical theories out there and some research to back these theories as well.

Diabetes is a disorder where your body is unable to control the level or amount of blood sugar. People often will wonder what causes diabetes and how do people actually wind up with diabetes? Today researches and scientists are still trying to find the answer to this difficult question. There are some theories; however, on what causes diabetes.

There are two major types of diabetes and each is caused by the disruption of the insulin hormone. Each type of diabetes interrupts the production of insulin in different ways.

With Type 1 diabetes the answer to what causes the disruption of the production of insulin is unclear; theories suggest that Type 1 diabetes is genetic and that the body genetically cannot control the levels of insulin therefore, insulin has to be injected into the body. This type of diabetes occurs in early childhood and is also known as juvenile diabetes or diabetes dependent on insulin, because the body is not producing enough insulin.

In Type 2 diabetes there is an overproduction of insulin and generally occurs in overweight adults. So although there is no certain link between obesity and Type 2 diabetes, many people, including doctors believe that being obese can put you at risk for Type 2 diabetes and in severe cases even cause Type 2 diabetes.

Although there is no certain answer to the “what causes diabetes?” question, there are many theories. Including being obese or overweight. Depending on what type of diabetes you have will determine whether it is a health issue and can be resolved or if it is something you will have to live with for the rest of your life. People with Type 1 diabetes are thought to have gotten it through a genetic disorder that runs in the family. With type 2 diabetes it is believed that unhealthy eating habits and obesity will cause it.
